Oxford's Port Meadow has been desecrated by the ugly tower blocks erected by an unthinking University of Oxford, and approved by an inept City Council, without proper consultation with the community. The buildings vandalise the views of the Dreaming Spires and ruin the tranquil experience of Port Meadow. This is a campaign to get the height of the buildings reduced, and to hold both City Council and University to account.
There are Jericho residents living in small terrace houses and Council flats who have only a small garden or none at all. Port Meadow is their only nearby place to let children play at large, to get fresh air, take a pushchair or a wheelchair, walk a dog. Some are people with too little confidence in their writing skills to protest in writing, or their complaints and resentment which I hear and overhear in local streets and shops would have been added to the protests.
